POLIAKOFF Serge

(1900 – 1969)

French painter of Russian origin.

He left Russia in 1918 and arrived in Paris in 1923. He was close to the Parisian intelligentsia, in particular Kandinsky, Sonia Delaunay. His painting was academic until he discovered Abstract Art in London in 1935. In the 50s he became one of the masters of the School of Paris; he is characterized by his abstract art and non-figurative with the lyrical takeoff symbolized by plates of colors that collide. He is exhibited in most American and European museums.
