COCTEAU Jean
(1889 – 1963)
French painter, illustrator and playwright. He is best known for his films: La belle et la bête and Orphée.
He decorated the chapel of Villefranche, has collaborated with Russian ballets and was fascinated by Serge de Diaghilev and Nijinsky. He illustrated posters, books and magazines. He participated in the French cultural life.
He was surrounded by all the great artists of the last century: Appolinaire, Picasso, Fernand Léger, Matisse, Edith Piaf and François Truffaut.
