BRAQUE Georges
(1882 – 1963)
French painter sculptor engraver. He began in Fauvism with Henri Matisse and Derain and was inspired by Cesanne & his cubic forms. Along with Cubism, he worked closely with Pablo Picasso.
WWII brought him to some darker pieces such as “The cauldron” and “the kitchen table”.
Towards the end of his life, in spite of his illness, he was granted full artistic recognition. The ‘”Birds series” brings a touch of modernism. The age does not play on his creation, on the contrary, we have the impression of a second youth freed from all academicism.
