MATTA

(1911 – 2002)

He is a Chilean painter who arrived in France in the 1930s.

He participated in the Surrealist Movement. He met Dali, André Breton, le Corbusier. He is influenced by Yves Tanguy. He traveled to London, where he met Henry Moore, Roland Penrose and René Magritte. He is exhibited in New York at the Julien Lévy gallery, on his return from France he is excluded from the surrealists. He became the painter of the revolution and the contestation of repressive political systems.
