DOMERGUE

(1889 – 1962)

French painter. You may know him as the little cousin of the famous poster designer Henri de Toulouse Lautrec (La Goulue, Sarah Bernardt, Moulin Rouge, etc). He was active from the beginning of the century until the 1960s.

He even declared himself “creator of the Pin-up”! He painted high society, casinos, beaches and skiing scenes. The wealthy bourgeoisie is depicted in the best moments of his life. He is also a great illustrator and engraver. He worked with the greatest magazines of his time : l’Illustration, Vogue and Femina. He created posters for train compagnies, music-hall artists and illustrated books such as La Parisienne by Cécile Saint-Laurent.
