CALDER Alexander
(1898 – 1976)
American painter and sculptor. Calder is a trained engineer. He revolutionized the world of sculpture.
He was the first to create works “in action” – moving sculptures – as opposed to static sculptures – and his slogan for life is Movement. He moved to France, admired Pietr Mondrian, and met artists such as Duchamp, Le Corbusier, and Fernand Léger. This autodidact can be seen in the greatest museums of the world.
